Special Notice: Nick and Marla's trial date has been postponed until October 3rd and 4th. Please plan on attending this important trial to support Nick and Marla!!

To all our friends who know Nick and Marla Weckman on Lake Andrusia, and the outrageous treatment they have been getting from the Ten Lakes Township Board of Supervisors, please note the following:

At 9 am, September 12, 2018, on the 2nd floor of the County Court House in Bemidji, a trial will be held during which Nick Weckman will defend himself against Ten Lakes Township charges that he is in violation of Township permit ordinances. Those of us who know the history of the controversy are convinced that Nick is innocent and is being railroaded by an overly zealous,  misbegotten Township Permit Administrator and Board of Supervisors.

We would urge you to let Nick know that you are in his corner and if possible, join us at 9 am September 12 at the trial. We expect a large contingent from Grace Lake to demonstrate their support of Nick and his wife, Marla. They are not only wrongly charged, they have been denied due process to redress the grievance. (Home phone: 218 335 8963. Nick's cell phone: 218 766 8779)

(Note: Both the 5th Amendment and the 14th Amendment to the Constitution require "due process of law be part of any proceedings that denies a citizen "Life, Liberty or Property and requires government to compensate citizens when it takes private property for public use...at market value at time of taking' and (moreover) the Procedural due process guarantees a party the right to be heard, ensure that party receives proper notification throughout the litigation."

(FYI, United States Supreme Court partially incorporated the 5th Amendment into the 14th Amendment to apply to state Governments as well.)

Nick and Marla believe they have been denied their contitutional rights of due process.  I agree.  You will too when you hear the facts of the case..

If you cannot reach Nick and Marla or would prefer to contact me regarding your attending the trial, my home number is: 218 333 0456. The trial may take two days so if you cannot attend day one try for day two. Many thanks.

Bob Brouse

Dean M. Curran

June 05, 1937 - August 20, 2018

Dean M. Curran, 81, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Monday, August 20, 2018, at his home with family.

Born in Grand Forks, ND June 5, 1937, Dean was the son of Francis and Ruth (Karlstad) Curran. He married Judith Lund on September 20, 1958 and is survived by three children: Todd, Tina (and Karl Heinz), Tyler (and Jenna) and his granddaughters Ruth and June, his eldest brother Richard, and wife Darlene Curran, and his younger sister Yvonne (Curran) and her husband John Jacobson, along with many nieces and nephews and their children. He was a deeply loving and devoted father who was fiercely loyal to his family.

Being raised on the farm he developed a life-long propensity for problem solving, building, and envisioning. His talents were highlighted through his work in construction from homes to hospitals.  He had an unique ability to see the end result and work backward to a solution with an innovative pursuit to solve problems of anything constructed or mechanical.

Prideful of his Irish and Norwegian heritage he was soft-spoken, humble and a peaceful man.  He was an honest and respected businessman who talked easily with anybody and was a mentor to many. He believed life should be pleasant and wanted people to find their happiness and prosperity.  He derived a particular pleasure from treasure hunting and, later in life, returning to his family heritage of farming and the land.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 24 1-3pm at Muddy Rivers Ballroom at the TownHouse Hotel, 710 1st Ave N, Grand Forks, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Altru Hospice and Hope Lodge, Rochester, MN.

If you rent your cabin please take a look at the AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES page for a sample letter that will be of good use to stopping the spread of AIS to our fabulous Grace Lake.

Great News about the former Grace Lake Junkyard!!!

January 26, 2018

Dear Friends

As you may have observed, the junk yard cars have been removed from 10158 North Grace Lake Road, S.E. Bemidji, Minnesota. Brent Rud, Beltrami County Director of Environmental Services assures us that the remaining clean-up of that property will begin in the spring of 2018.

Beltrami County Board of Commissioners has been responsive to our oral and written requests for help in dealing with the documented, dangerous, unsanitary, health and safety standards required by the County and Frohn Township. County Administrator, Kay Mack, our District 1 Commissioner, Keith Winger, as well as Brent Rud, his associate, Shawn Foley, and the new County Attorney, Dave Hansen, have demonstrated their commitment to resolve this long standing violation.

Brent Rud has encouraged us to continue to monitor their progress and let him know if the promised follow- up actions do not meet expectations. His telephone number is 219 333 4158.

Our thanks to Grace Lake residents, Richard Sampson, Rick Black and former Hubbard County Sheriff Frank Homer, for their assistance in this matter.

A copy of this letter has been sent to the Frohn Township Board as well as those mentioned above.

Cordially,.

Robert Brouse and Jim Kramer,
Members,  Grace Lake Watershed Development Association

Thank you, Bob, for being so consistently supportive of the tough work we do.   I do think that we work well with our citizens and as a team, but it is always good to get this kind of encouragement.

Have a glorious weekend!

Kay L. Mack, Beltrami County Administrator
